Zadar - Things To Do

The old city of Zadar still preserves an old network of narrow and charming city streets, as well as a Roman forum dating back to the first century AD. Zadar is a popular destination for travelers from all over the world, particularly those wanting to experience the charm of an original fortressed city.

From Zadar, you can also catch a ferry to any of the lovely islands in the area or take a special trip to the gorgeous Kornati Islands.

Day 1

  • Spend the morning visiting the local fruit and vegetable market to stock up on supplies and meet the colourful local farmers.
  • Have lunch at the Town Square and marvel at the surrounding architecture dating back centuries, like the Gradska Loza built in 1565 AD.
  • Head to the southern area of the old city to see the Trg Pet Bunara. Relax the afternoon away at The Queen Jelena Madijevka Park.
  • Stroll along the Riva until you reach the University of Zadar. Sit at one of the cafes there and enjoy a spectacular sunset.
  • Enjoy the night life by visiting the many vibrant clubs in the old city. Try to find the club situated on the wall at the north east corner of the city for a superb night under the stars.

Day 2

  • Start the day with a brisk climb to the top of the Cathedral of St. Anastasi to enjoy glorious panoramic views of zadar.
  • Take a walk across the Most (bridge) to Zadar's growing business district. Catch the rowing boat ferry back at the mouth of the harbour.
  • Have lunch at the Tri Bunara at any one the lovely small cafes surrounding this cool lush garden area.
  • Spend the afternoon discovering some of the impressive old churches in this part of the old city, including The Church and Monastery of St. Franciszkanów, the Zadar Cathedral, and the Roman Forum.
  • Enjoy a movie in the evening at the local cinema followed by an ice-cream and an evening stroll along the popular Kalelarga.

Day 3

  • Start the day with a morning stroll along the Riva and spend some time relaxing and enjoying the unique sounds of the Sea Organ. Marvel at the Monument To The Sun.
  • Do some souvenir shopping in the market at the Roman Forum.
  • End your day enjoy that spectacular sunset again anywhere along the Riva.
